Why the Pocket Financial Planner?

After taking a financial planning class at my local University and spending endless hours online searching for ideas, strategies and tactics on how to create my own personal financial plan, I thought it would be nice to create a site/blog dedicated to the process of creating a personal financial plan in a simplified manner.

Rather than simply creating another “money blog” with random posts about the latest financial news or gimics, I am going to try and organize this blog into 15 different categories/sections, that when combined together, create a complete financial plan.

I am by no means an expert in this arena, but after taking this class realized I have an tremendous desire to continue the process of creating and following my own financial plan and figured what better way than to put in online and keep it in the forefront of my mind everyday.

The organization of the blog will be as follows:

I. Goals

II. Financial Statements

III. Budgets

IV. Tax Planning

V. Cash Management

VI. Credit Cards

VII. Credit Report

VIII. Consumer & Student Loans

IX. Insurance Planning

X. Money & Relationships

XI. Investment Planning

XII. Retirement Plannning

XIII. Estate Planning

XIV. Wills

XV. Miscellaneous Items

I imagine I may tweak, modify or add additional categories as time goes on, but this will give me a start.

To really make this site successful and useful for all, I look forward to your input as I post my random thoughts and ideas. Please feel free to e-mail me any of your own personal thoughts, ideas, experiences, etc. that I can post to the blog that you may think would be of worth to other.
